The rapper Edgar, who incorporates influences from genres like Trap, Reggaeton, and Funk into his sound, released the song “Original de Quebrada”.
The single, made in collaboration with Nelson D, also came with a music video directed by the artist himself.
In the video, filmed in the Favela do Coqueiro, in Guarulhos, state of São Paulo, Edgar is shown in scenes from his daily life, wandering through the alleys of the area and meeting friends along the way:
“The idea was to show that it’s possible to do things within the favela, both by highlighting the beauty of the place and by offering an experience for those who live there. During the pandemic, I moved back to Favela Coqueiro with my family, revisited my roots, reconnected with friends, and this had a direct impact on the album, both in sound and lyrics.”
The release will be part of the rapper’s third album, “Universidade Favela,” scheduled to be released by the Deck record label on May 17th.
Following “Ultrassom” (2018) and “Ultraleve” (2021), the project was conceived through collective production, aiming to bring different perspectives on Edgar’s work.
For the album, the artist collaborated with producers from São Paulo (Nakata and Kazvmba), from Rio de Janeiro (Os Fita), as well as the Italo-Brazilian Nelson D, French producer Dang, and, from England, Jammz.
